New Node.js Book from Packt

Node Web Development by David Herron (Packt)

Node.js is the new cool thing on the web, and everybody seems to be talking about it these days. And when everyone starts talking about something you start seeing books on the subject. Some time ago, I’ve caught David’s anouncement of the book he was writing, and was wondering about when it will be available, when Packt contacted me asking for a review of David’s Node web development, which has just been released (August 2011).

Now, you could say I’m a bit biased when it comes to Packt. They’ve published a great book on Python 3 by my friend and mentor, Dusty Phillips, and I also consider them a friend of open-source, which automatically promotes them to the friend-of-mine status. David himself is also a veteran developer (currently at Yahoo!), so I must say I have really high hopes for David’s book. We’ll see if it lives up to the standards that my previous contact with Packt books (and books from other publishers like Apress and O’Reilly) have set for me.

For now, I can only tell you that it’s a book for people starting with Node.js, and that it’s 172 pages. Cover’s also nice, as usual. (That plant represents a single-threaded JavaScript VM?) Expect a more thorough review in a week or two, but for now, here’s the free chapter to give you some idea of what the book is like.
