Dear Google
Yes, I’ve seen your whinage about the blidness of the googlebot to web 2.0 content. So I wanted to write a line or two here, since comments on your blog are disabled.
AJAX != Flash. The reason those are not the same is that AJAX is a mix of standard technologies with open specs, whereas that is not the case in Flash. The reason your googlebot thinks it’s the same shit is because it’s basically… well, a stoneage tech. The googlebots needs serious overhaul in order to continue to be useful in the future.
You are lucky that Google holds the title of the biggest and most influential search engine out there (and I applaud you for that), but this type of whinage is just not going to advance your technology.
So, let me get something clear. There are sites that use only HTML. Static sites. There are sites that look just like any static HTML site but has tons of HTML generated server-side. Then you have sites that are like the latter, but have sprinkled AJAX over them to make them a tad bit friendlier. And finally, you have sites that start with a blank HTML page, and build everything using JavaScript. Everything, as in ‘every goddamn line of HTML user sees in his/her browser’.
If you are not retarded, you’d have already figured out that all 4 categories have content to offer to its users. And as you point out, we have more and more sites that do this. So if that hurts the search, search needs to evolve. And fast. Sitting on your hands and making developers adjust their shit is just plain irresponsible. Stuff developers work on works in the browsers. Your googlebot needs to get a browser’s view of things if it wants to stay in business. No more dragging developers by their legs. Just get on it and do it.
